Take Your Child to Work Day

Take your child to work dayWear the Cape was invited to present a lesson on kindness and heroism, as part of Take Your Child to Work Day at Willis Towers Watson, in Short Hills, New Jersey. We were thrilled to be a part of this very special day, while sharing how it’s COOL TO BE KIND.

Over 30 children, ranging from grades Kindergarten through sixth, and parents, participated in today’s Take Your Child To Work Day. As part of our presentation, parents and their children first listened to Wear The Cape’s children’s book “It’s Good To Be Kind,” written by Lauren Dubois. The children noted the many acts of kindness that Lenny the Lion showed to the other animals in his jungle.

Using Lenny the Lion, the main character from the story, as an example, the children then created “Hero Tag” necklaces, on red capes, listing ways that they could show kindness in their daily lives. All the children vowed to perform one act of kindness by the end of the month – only days away.

Children and parents were moved by the assembly videos we presented, which showed relatable scenarios, using real kids their own age, acting as heroes. Immediately the children began reciting our superhero strategy, “Stop and Think.” As a follow-up lesson, the children traced their hands, writing one way they can help another on one hand, and one way they can help someone who is hurt, on the other.

We had a fabulous day spending time with the families of Willis Towers Watson today. It gave us much joy to share our hero strategies and see the children using them right before our eyes. As a first grader proudly stated, “It’s fun to be a hero!”
